Through our collaboration with the University of Otago’s Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies, BA Humanities and Sustainability students can spend their first two years at Chiang Mai University and then continue their studies in Dunedin, New Zealand, for another two years.
Build on your humanistic knowledge with global perspectives, cultural and language competencies, interdisciplinary learning, and real-world experience—and graduate with two internationally recognised degrees from two universities.
Global Studies is about understanding the world and finding your place in shaping its future.
You will explore some of the world’s most pressing challenges—from inequality and climate change to conflict, disinformation, and artificial intelligence—while examining how cultures, societies, political systems, economies, and ideas are interconnected.
The program is interdisciplinary, flexible, and hands-on, giving you the opportunity to connect different fields of knowledge with the issues that matter to you. You will develop critical thinking and practical skills through projects, applied learning, and internship opportunities, with support from experienced academic staff throughout your studies.
Global Studies is not simply about learning about the world. It is about thinking critically, connecting perspectives, and developing the knowledge and skills to contribute to meaningful change—locally and globally.

Simply put, students in the double-degree program spend their first two years studying in the BA Humanities and Sustainability (BAHS) program at Chiang Mai University, completing General Education (GE) courses, Core Courses, selected Major Courses, and Free Electives.
They, then, transfer to the University of Otago in New Zealand for a further two years of study, completing the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies degree.
The University of Otago recommends that students in the double-degree programme stay in a Residential College during their first year. This accommodation option can help students make a smooth transition from Chiang Mai to life in Dunedin, with academic guidance, practical support, and opportunities to connect with fellow students and Residential College staff.
Then, in the second year, they can choose to stay in Uni Flats, which is a shared house managed by the university.
BAHS students who are accepted to the double degree program and transfer to study at the University of Otago can apply for the "International Partnership Scholarship" worth up to NZ$10,000. For more information, click this link below:
